September 2, 2010 Thursday
Travel to Garner, North Carolina On route of march to Bentonville, NC and on route of retreat back to Raleigh. Stovall's brigade used present US 70 which goes by this motel.
12:00 Noon to 5:00 P.M. G.B.S.H.H.A. Registration Main Lobby Hampton Inn and meet with other arriving GBSHHA members.
7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Welcome/Mixer Old members greet new membersand receive printed details on upcoming events. Refreshments.
September 3, 2010 Friday
8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Travel by charter bus to Bentonville Battlefield using the 1865 approach route from Smithfield, as close as possible.
9:00 A.M. to Noon Tour key points on Bentonville Battlefield where Stovall's brigade was positioned, attacked and repositioned. Begin at Visitor's Center for brief orientation and rest stop. Proceed to battlefield positions. Tour conducted by Michael Griggs.
Noon to 1:00 P.M. Return to Visitor's Center/ Museum Box lunch at Museum. Rest stop.
1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Travel by charter bus to Kinston, North Carolina
2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Visit delaying action area where Stovall's brigade helped defend Kinston. This battle was known as Wyse Fork and was fought March 7-10, 1865.
3:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. Return to Raleigh area along route that CSA forces marched to get to Kinston and to retreat to Raleigh following the battle of Bentonville. This route is now US 70.
7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Hampton Inn Room ___. Historian Reports, display of historic documents, pictures, letters and artifacts including new research by members.
September 4, 2010 Saturday
8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Travel by private cars to Bennett Place State Historic Site where General Johnston surrendered the Army of Tennessee and other CSA forces under his command on April 26, 1865.
9:00 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. Visit and tour Bennett Place. Discuss in relation to CSA army.
10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. Travel via I-85 to Archdale, North Carolina at I-85, Exit 111 ( Junction of I-85 and Highway 311 ) Assemble in parking lot of Hampton Inn motel at this exit.
11:00 A.M. to Noon Travel into High Point, NC (4 miles), site of last encampment of Stovall's brigade in April, 1865. Visit final campsite of Stovall's brigade on the railroad at Archdale, NC. ( See page 102 of Georgia Confederate 7,000 Part II by Gary Goodson, Sr. ). Visit site of Barbee Hotel/ CSA Hospital and Oakwood Cemetery.
Noon to 1:00 P.M. Lunch at Golden Corral in High Point.
1:00 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. Travel by I-85 and I-40 to Greensboro Historic Museum Greensboro, NC
1:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Visit Greensboro Historic Museum
2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. Travel to North Carolina Museum of History Raleigh, NC
3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Visit North Carolina Museum of History, Civil War Section
4:00 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. Return to Hampton Inn Garner, NC
7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. Dinner and Guest Speaker at _______________. Enjoy "no host" dinner featuring keynote dinner speaker _____________on the topic of ___________. Mr. ____________is ______________of _______________. Awards, Door prizes. Vote for officer for next term..

8:00 A.M. Travel to Oakwood Cemetery on Oakwood Avenue in Raleigh, NC. There are 1,390 soldiers buried in the Confederate Section. Of this number, one 41st Georgia, two 42nd Georgia, one 43rd Georgia and one 52nd Georgia soldiers are known to be buried here. Decorate graves with flags.
10:00 A.M. Return to hotel or home.
This concludes the formal G.B.S.H.H.A. Raleigh Congress tours. You are encouraged to continue your viusit as your time and personal interests dictate. For those returning to Georgia, the highway from High Point to Charlotte is the route most of Stovall's brigade soldiers took when they walked back to Georgia.Some were able to ride freight trains, but most walked.
Afternoon and evening free and travel home safely.
Please plan to attend our Tenth annual G.B.S.H.H.A. Congress in Columbia, South Carolina. We will visit the battlefields at Edisto River Railroad Bridge, Binnaker's Bridge and Orangeburg where the survivors of Stovall's brigade helped defend the bridges. These battlefields were located through research in 2007. We will also visit historic sites and museums in Columbia where Stovall's brigade entrained for North Carolina.
